10 DIFFERENT WAYS TO FEEL CLOSER TO NATURE*

During the days like these, we tend to rush off from a place to another. During the days like these, we tend to forget the bond we have with nature. And how can we feel closer to nature in today's society? Let me share my 10 favourite things to do when I feel lost of touch!

Fill your house with plants
This is by far the easiest thing to do, especially if you're living in the city and you do not have unlimited access to a forest right on your doorstep. Head over to your local Plantagen or Ikea and pick up some plants to bring your home alive. Though, if you're as bad as plants as I am (I tend to kill them very successfully), you might want to pick up the ones that don't require much your attention.

Take a trip to your local botanical garden
I'm all in for botanical gardens! We visited the Arctic-Alpine Botanical Garden in Tromso and it was such an amazing experience. Two more I want to tick off my list in the near future is a botanical garden in Turku and Helsinki.

Take a trip to your local national park
Is there a better way to find the connection with nature than heading over to a national park nearby? Hubby and I did a little walk around Nuuksio National Park in Espoo for these pictures and it was like an instant wind off from our hectic lives, even though we went there for "work" haha.

Have a camp outside over the weekend
Do you remember the last time you have spent a night in the tent? Me either. This needs to be fixed ASAP as I can remember how refreshing it was back in the day when I used to camp a lot.

Take part in your local forest yoga
I live in a lucky position to be able to have a forest nearby and where's the forest, there's the forest yoga. We have a class in our forest for the forest yoga but if you don't feel like going hugging the trees in a group, you can do a little exploration by yourself too.

Take a trip to your local nature trail
When we visited my mum's earlier this summer we took a little toddler free time and went for a little walk to the local nature trail. I must've been five or six when I last walked it from the end to another. It was such a refreshing journey and did wonders for our relationship as well.

Simply meditate on your backyard and listen to the noises around you
Head over to your balcony, or the backyard, sit tight and close your eyes. What do you hear?

Take a calming walk at the beach
Walks on the beach are my favourite. You'll get to listen to the sound of the sea, smell the salty water and enjoy the wind in your hair. Ah, the bliss.

Listen to the sounds of nature via Spotify
Living a hectic life in the city I like to take an hour or two to listen to this "Meditate to the Sound of Nature" -playlist. I'm actually listening to it right at this very moment I'm writing this post. During the days with a bunch of things to do, it's nice to have the sound of nature to listen to.

Visit Savonlinna International Nature Film Festival
If you're into nature films, why not to check out the Savonlinna Nature Film Festival on 17.-19.8.2018 held in Savonlinna, Finland? I was planning to head over there this year but then life got in the way and I had to cancel my visit. I was gifted with this gorgeous canvas bag though, which will remind me to clear my schedule for it for the next year!
Head over to their website to find out what they're all about.

How do you feel closer to nature?

  2. Walking on a beach is such a lovely head-clearing thing to do. And I don't practice yoga but yes to visiting a forest or wood. I just wrote a blog post all about friluftsliv so it's lovely to read your ways to get back to nature - we are quite similar I think! I hope you enjoy the film festival next year too :) xx

  12. I completely agree with this - sometimes I like making sure I have my phone put away and enjoy the outdoors! (Maybe taking it out to snap a wee picture and appreciate the beauty afterwards too / share it) ☺️ I also like to fill my room with as many plants as humanly possible!

  14. I did something like meditation in my yard today. I went out at 4:30 am to try to see more meteors. No luck but it was starting to get light out not long after so I sat until 6 am to watch the night slip away and to witness the world waking up around me. It was so nice.

  20. Once again, your photos are absolutely stunning here. I have to admit I'm not really at one with nature. Other than walking my dog (which isn't long, he's quite lazy) I rarely find myself outside for that long. I love the sound of forest yoga though, that sounds amazing and soooo relaxing x

  25. I love all of these! (Man oh man do I wish there was some forest yoga near me -- I'll have to look into that!) One luxury that working from home provides me is that I can work from the great outdoors if I want to. While I'm usually not interested in lugging my computer and everything I need outside all the time...I DO try to take all my work (and personal) phone calls outside. It's nice to see the sky for a bit in the midst of my work day (especially since I don't have a commute that forces me to do so).

  26. That's such a shame you couldn't make it to the Film Festival, sounds like it would've been good fun! I also really love re-connecting with nature. I'm hopefully going camping soon and although it will be very cold, I am so looking forward to the peace it'll bring. No phone signal, no wifi, just the great outdoors! Can't wait!
