FAMILY PICNIC AT SUOMENLINNA, HELSINKI, FINLAND

This is so so late, the post of mine of Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. I mean, we went there at the last weekend of May, to be exact. But hey, better late than never? Don't they say so?

I thought I needed to wind off a bit from all the stress involving my preparing for the entrance exam I had in 29th of May, so Suomenlinna seemed like a perfect little getaway from the hectic "normal".

Suomenlinna Sea Fortress is only a 20-minute ferry trip away from downtown Helsinki and D had such a wonderful time in the ferry. He was constantly looking through the windows and well, now that he walks (and even run), he doesn't like to sit still for a too long period of times. He's constantly going somewhere so he's a bit handful at the moment. In a good way, of course.

There's everything for everyone. Dungeons for the kids to explore, and for adults too. And it's a very nice place for a Summer-ish picnic too. We took some berries with us and pastries and while D ran across the island the pastry on his hand, trying to chase the birds even though the birds were only after his pastry. It was so much fun and exactly what I needed after two stressful weeks.

I would do this again anytime.

I even managed to pose for the camera. Don't know why, but I've recently needed stairs for the occasion. I'm a bit weird when it comes to being on that side of the camera.

This was my second time in Suomenlinna Sea Fortress (I know right, would think that I'd visit there more often but nah, haven't been) and I'm always amazed by its beauty. Absolutely one of my favourite places in Helsinki.

Do you have any special places where you go to when life seems a bit too hectic for you?

  1. Your photos really captured the environment. I love the second photo of your son, he looks like a little adventurer lol.

When I want some "me" time or need to wind down I love hitting up cafes with my lap top. Writing seems to do the trick majority of the time :)

  2. Lovely post and late certainly is better than never! :) I usually go sit or walk by the sea in the coasts of Espoo and Helsinki if I need a little getaway and have some time off. Sea and water in general, is super relaxing element.

  6. Absolutely stunning! I'm amazed that it looks a lot like a sea fortress that we have here in Florida. I'm glad that D had fun, I know my daughter had a blast climbing and running through it all.

Little explorers, may their hearts ever wander!
