MY TOP TIPS FOR PLANNING BLOG POSTS

I've been asked so many times, "how are you so organised?"
Even though, blogging is purely a hobby for me I'm using more time on planning my content than anything else I'm using time in the whole process. Someone even asked me to teach them, so here I am, sharing my secrets.

PLANNING
For this part, you're going to need your notebook. Any kind of notebook, any kind of pencil. I'm using my doughnut notebook for this. I've divided it into two different parts; blog post ideas and as a checklist for different things to do on different days.
For the blog post idea side of the notebook, I'm brainstorming all the ideas that pop into my head. They can be sentences or only a words but by no means, they're not ready titles of a blog post.
Checklist side includes different tasks for the days I've marked as days I'm focusing on blogging. There can be stuff like: "write the xxx post and take pictures for the xxx post, edit pictures for the xxx post" etc. Pretty simple, yet it's something that doesn't require a computer. I'm trying to do as much as I can without, but I remember mentioning in some of my older posts that I'm writing posts on my notebook first and then I copy them to blogger - that's not the case anymore.

THE NUMBERS APP ON MACBOOK
I'm swearing by this app. I've got a spreadsheet for every single month of the year.
How to create one? Open your numbers app and choose the Checklist. You can add different columns to your chart and mine goes like in the picture above.
DAY - the day when the post will go live.
TAG - Is the tag under the post will be tagged.
W - I'll check this one if the post is already written.
P - I'll check this when the pictures are taken, edited and added to the scheduled blog post.
POST - That's the title of my blog post. I'll overline the post after it's been published, so I know where we're going at the moment and I don't need to check the date every now and then.

BULK WRITING
I'm trying to write everything beforehand. I mean, everything I can write. D's monthly updates or something that requires being happened before I can write about it are the exceptions here. I'm doing notes for every blog post before I start writing them, so I remember what its really about. And that's how I'll stick to the topic. I should have done that in school as well whilst writing an essay...
Whenever I have one of my writing days, I'll just sit down and write. Some days they are only notes and some days it's only writing with the computer.

PHOTOSHOOT DAYS
I plan ahead when I'm taking pictures. Now, when it's getting darker and darker each day I've had to move the day from Monday mornings to weekend mornings. I want to get the advantage of the daylight and in very rare occasions I'm using my photo light thingy I've got for the purpose.

SCHEDULING
When the post is written and ready to be published, I schedule it with blogger. I choose the day and time for it and schedule it to publish itself. I don't have to be anywhere near to my laptop or phone to publish a blog post and everything runs smoothly if I keep writing and focusing other things.

WHERE AM I NOW?
When this post goes live, I'll be already writing posts for November and December. Soon, I've got the whole year wrapped - excluding the stuff that needs to happen before I can write about them. That's how I'm able to take a little Christmas vacation from blogging and focus on stuff like being with family during the Holidays but without the blog stops.

How do you plan your posts?
Was any of this useful for you?
Let me know your thoughts.

  1. I think I am going to change some things in the way I am planning my posts. I am so spontaneous... I have some topics but I don't ever follow the schedule. Like If I am planning one topic for tomorrow for example, I might change it in a minute and write about something else. I love the way you're planning your posts. I found that very useful and inspiring! <3

  2. We have very similar planning processes... if only I was as good as you to stick to it! Now that I'm working full time with a 3hr+ commute each day, my routines slightly changed. I'll plan and write on my train ride and spend my weekend taking photos :) Very keen to try the Numbers app, thanks for sharing x

I'm going to start bulk writing and preparing blogposts because I like the idea of planning that far ahead like you have!

I am currently preparing for Blogtober and am taking advantage of pre writing posts and getting them scheduled. Your tips are really great!
