BABY MASSAGE - THE BEST THING ON EARTH

Our little bundle of joy have had slight issues with is tummy. It was the worst when he was five weeks old and that's when I discovered baby massaging. I can say this with a hand on my heart that it's the best thing I've discovered in a while. Dino had a hard time to be after eating and the times got even harder when it became doing a poop (yeah, I said poop). It got to the point when pooping was a one-hour screaming show and it wasn't making any of us feel great.

I started searching from Google what could I do to help his pain and I saw many recommendations about the baby massage. Well, I gave it a go - just to see if it really was working. Well, guess what!? Or okay, you don't even need to guess when it's in the header already, but that is by far the most wonderful thing I ever decided to try out. You can find the instructions we're using in Finnish from here if you want to take a look and on this post, I'm going to tell you a bit more about baby massage and how it works with us.

Baby massage is proven to help with stomach issues and it also relaxes the baby. Also, the massage moment is a perfect bonding opportunity for you and the baby. We're not using all the massage methods there was shown in the instructions and we're focusing more on the stomach area and legs. We started with doing this every time with the diaper change and before eating, to get all the air out from the stomach. Nowadays, we're only doing it before the bedtime and after the bath. Dino has been sleeping way better after we started doing this and I'm so happy that we found the instructions.

OUR MASSAGE ROUTINE

"pumping" the legs

We start by pumping his legs. We lift his legs up and bring them gently closer to his stomach and we repeat that about 10 times or so.
This also includes casual leg & foot massage.

belly massage

Then we gently massage his belly from top to bottom around 10 to 15 times.

We repeat this routine from 3 to 4 times and it has helped us so much!

  13. I love a massage and always feel super relaxed, so I can totally see why babies do too, and it must help relax their tummies. Thanks for the share. Kate x

  16. Poor little man! I hope he's feeling better! Lucas and I went to baby massage for six weeks and it was great. It's a lovely way to bond and teaches lots of ways to deal with tummy complaints or congestion. I'd recommend it to anyone!

  17. I haven't done baby massage on any of my 3 but i wish I had. If I'd got into the habit with my first then I would have done it for them all but now don't have time and my littlest is a bit too old (would walk off!)

  19. Oh bless him, there's nothing worse than your baby being in pain is there? And the tummy problems when they're younger can be so sad, my little one struggled with colic a bit but we found also that massaging helped, we even went to baby massage classes where they showed us the techniques & areas to focus on etc. I really hope Dino is feeling better soon but it really sounds like the massage is working wonders, I'm so glad!
