5 THOUGHTS ABOUT MATERNITY LEAVE

I've been home for one month now.
Without a baby, though.
On a maternity leave.
And it's driving me insane.

Okay, 'insane' is kind of an overstatement, to be honest. But I have to say that these haven't been the most enjoyable couple of weeks I've had.

1. Being alone.

I love being alone. I really do, but at some point it becomes boring. You know, your husband is at work so you end up spending the day home alone. Your friends are at work or school or you know, living their lives - so you basically spend the days home alone.

2. There's not enough series in Netflix.

I can say that I've watched everything that's on Netflix. Jane the Virgin had its second season there a few weeks back, I watched it in a week. Modern Family had a new season, I watched it in less than a week. If you ask me, Netflix is updating series so slowly. But then again, when you've got nothing else to do...

3. Feeling lonely.

This goes hand in hand with the first thought about maternity leave. I could write a whole post about the fact how lonely I do feel. J's at work, most of my friends somehow disappeared after they found out I was pregnant and others just live too far away and have their own lives.

4. At one point, all the cleaning is done.

You know, sometimes doing the housework sucks. But when you've got nothing else to do, you just clean and clean and clean until you've got nothing else to clean. On the positive side, our apartment has never been this tidy before. When the baby arrives, I can cherish this memory.

5. It's so easy to get unproductive.

Watching Netflix, laying on the sofa and basically having nothing to do makes me feel so lazy that it kills my productivity. As being someone who's always on the go and doing stuff, it's a pretty huge life change. For me, while being on a maternity leave - I've found myself being so unproductive that I actually started scheduling my to-do lists for the day so I could get things done and feel better about myself.

How do you cope when you've got nothing to do?
I can't wait for the baby to arrive so I can start living in the baby bubble.

  1. 1 month of maternity leave before the baby? Every other country in the world has it made. In the US, it's only 3 months. Good luck with baby!

    1. The whole maternity leave? Oh my goodness. We can decide if we want to stay home earlier like 30-50 days before due date & I left a little over month before due date because my job and bump doesn't go so well together haha :D The maternity leave is about 4-5 months and then I'm staying at home for 4 months after maternity leave for parenting leave. Then I've planned to stay home a year or few after that with lower benefits :D

  3. I more or less feel what you say! I spend a lot of time alone at home because I am new in Norway and it's honestly quite hard to make friends here... Maybe you can make some easy DIY, create new recipes to share on the blog, read some books (or perhaps you want to write one?). I hope it gets a bit less boring soon!

    1. Yeah, I believe it gets less boring soon :D I wish I had energy to do all that. I feel like this baby is sucking the whole life out of me. All I've done these past two weeks; sleep, sleep & sleep. I haven't been able to sleep at nights so I've been sleeping throughout the days :/ Well... :D

  4. Oh I hated the time off work before baby was here, now he is here, I'm getting close to the end of my maternity leave and I really don't want to return. Good luck with the birth x

  5. Whenever I have a ton of empty time, I like to find projects for myself. Whether its DIYs or starting a blog (ha), having something to get up for is the best motivation!

  6. Sounds horrible! I think I'd either go explore places and travel or just work until due to date to make life less boring. I'd become crazy being home alone every day.

    1. Hahah, it makes people insane! I wasn't able to stay at work until the due date because my job is not really that bump friendly :D I would have but after co-operation negotiations I didn't even feel like being there at all so for me it was just easier to get out when I was able to do so.
Exploring places would be so much more enjoyable if walking wouldn't hurt so much! At this point it's super painful to get out of the bed haha :D

  7. Sorry to hear that you are feeling uncomfortable these last days of your pregnancy. But it's ok to feel this way. Try to relax and to rest. And get some sleep in advance, you know you are going to need it after having your baby!

  10. I'm loving your pregnancy series. You could be doing some meditation to calm you and get away with the restlessness you feel these days. 😊

  11. I'm sorry you're not enjoying the maternity leave! If I'm off of uni for summer or holidays etc, I like to start little projects - learning to sew, creating my blog, reading a number of books etc.
I hope you enjoy your time more!
