22 THINGS I’VE LEARNED IN 22 YEARS

"I don't know about you but I'm feeling 22
Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you
You don't know about me but I bet you want to
Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we're 22"

Yeah so, today is my 22nd birthday and I started this post with Taylor Swift lyrics. Seriously jazz, what has gone into you? To be honest, I don't feel like being 22. I feel like being 12 in 22-year-old's body. 22 is also such a funny number, isn't it?

NOTHING IN LIFE COMES ON A SILVER PLATE

This is something everyone should realise at least at some point in their lives. There are things you want, you need to work your ass off to achieve them. I wouldn't be where I am at the moment if I took things for granted.

SOMETIMES IT'S JUST BETTER TO LET GO

By this, I mean toxic people in your life. I've lost so many good friends during these years and I'm so sorry to be not sorry if I sound like a proper bitch right now, but I'm glad that those people aren't in my life anymore. Too much drama, too much negative energy.

IF YOU DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT

I spent 16 years of my life dreaming of living someplace else than where I used to live. I did it, I moved away and sorry to not be sorry about this either, I'm happier than I've ever been.

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE THINGS YOU CAN'T AFFECT

This one I learned in Summer 2015. There are things where you can't affect and you just need to accept them.

 READ BOOKS

For me, this has been so close to my heart. Nowadays, being busy with blog and work and everything I haven't had a proper time to read books. That feels so awful. Reading is so important as you might know and I prefer actual books instead of e-books or books you can listen to, so I really need to get my reading game back before all books disappear to the Internet.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR SUGARCOATING THINGS

I used to sugarcoat my sayings so much in my earlier years. I mean, why I can't just be honest and say my opinions out just the way I feel? I realised this a couple of years ago and I've never been happier. Life is too short for sugarcoating. In certain situations. Not whenever or where-ever, but in most places.

SONGS WILL GET RUINED

When things happen in my life, I tend to listen to music while thinking about them. There're a few songs that I'm not able to listen to anymore because they bring back so many sad memories. Thank goodness, there will always be new songs.

 BEING WEIRD IS OKAY

I'm so weird and it's okay.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO WORRY WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU

This one I learned when I moved from a small town to the big city. Life is seriously too short to worry what other people think of you.

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE WHO WILL TALK SHIT ABOUT YOU

Sad, but true. There will always be someone who is jealous of the things you've achieved, but thankfully - it has nothing to do with you. I mean, why should I feel bad about it? There you go, talk, talk & talk - I can give you something to talk about.
I know pretty much everything there's people saying about me, especially in my old hometown, but guess what, I couldn't care less. If I hear something that really amuses me, I usually do something that makes them talk about it even more. That's my own little game I enjoy playing.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE AN ADULT

Don't get me wrong here. I know there are responsibilities like bills and other stuff and there will be even more of those now when having a child, but guess what - life is too short to be an adult. I've always secretly hated when people say that they can't do certain things because they're adults now. Living on their own and being a certain age. Guess what, you can! You can go to toboggan slide during Winter, as an adult and have fun. You can go to amusement park and ride all those rollercoasters, eat a bunch of cotton candy and then throw it all up. That's life. Being adult don't make you have to stop living your life.

TRUE FRIENDS WILL STICK WITH YOU NO MATTER WHAT

Jenni, Petra, Teemu & Jere, this is for you.

 YOUR MOM IS USUALLY RIGHT

No matter how much I hate to admit it, that's the way it is.

I DIDN'T NEED A FATHER TO GROW UP AS A PROPER HUMAN BEING

For me, growing up without a father was hard. I thought I needed one because everyone else seemed to have one too. I felt so awful for not having one. Oh, and look at me now - here I am, as a proper human being, living my life, not giving a damn.

THE LITTLE THINGS ARE THE ONES THAT MATTER

In everything.

 FOOD IS NOT MY ENEMY

I've never been diagnosed with an eating disorder but I guess I've always had one. I've also realised that food is not my enemy. I've also noticed that even though I was forced to eat during primary school because "children of Africa are starving and I'm ungrateful enough to leave a food on my plate" that noise is not in my head anymore if I'm finished with eating. I don't also suffer from panic attacks anymore, when there is you know, something on my plate that I've got no clue of what it is.

HIGH HEELS ARE NOT FOR ME

I'm just not made to walk with those things. Sneakers, always and forever thank you.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE FIT

I mean, there are people who love to get fit and being on a diet and spend countless hours at the gym. That's not for me. I'm not overweight, I walk a lot and I eat healthily, that's all I need in my life.

NEVER GIVE UP

If you want something, work for it.

NOBODY HAS IT ALL FIGURED OUT

I have never had it all figured out. Life is so much more exciting when you haven't got it all figured out.

TAKE A LOTS OF PICTURES

This has been my motto ever since I got my first camera.

 ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR HEART

There have been a few times when I didn't follow my heart. It's not something that I regret about, but it's something that keeps me thinking how my life would be now if I had followed my heart instead of my brain. It tears me to pieces sometimes, but I know I've made all the right choices.

Great post, enjoyed reading through your lessons! I can relate a lot, but the one that stood out to me most was the taking a lot of pictures. You are so right! I've never been one to bother with taking a lot of pictures, and now looking back I wish I had!

  7. This is a nice post. I've never thought of things I've learned in terms of grouping them into thoughtful lessons, but might have to sit down and write something.
