5 THINGS TO KNOW WHEN TALKING TO A FINNISH PERSON

Hi there lovelies!

Today I'm going to share with you bunch of things you might need to know if you ever
happen to travel to Finland. Although, I should say that you shouldn't say these to a total
strangers because they might think you're being weird, get afraid and hide to their little
cottages being afraid if unknown person tries to say something to them.
Just don't talk to finns when you're in Finland. Just kidding, or am I?

#1 WHEN YOU WANT TO GREET SOMEONE

There's a plenty of words for greeting.
Moi! Hei! - Hi! Hello!
Hyvää päivää! - Good day.
Those are the basics and you'll be fine with them.

#2 WHEN YOU WANT TO SMALL TALK

In normal countries this usually comes after greetings,
but when you're in Finland - just don't okay. We do not
small talk and our small talk skills are super low.
It'll be just ending up to an awkward silence between
both parties wondering how to get themselves out of
the situation.

#3 GREAT TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT

- Hockey.
If you know anything about IIHF and what
happened in years 1995 and 2011, you'll be fine.
Just to fill you in in case you have no clue what I'm
talking about:
1995 in international ice hockey world championships
Finland won a gold over Sweden with numbers 4-1.
Before you bring that match up, watch this youtube
clip to know what to talk about over here.
And in 2011 at the IIHF world championships Finland
won their second gold over Sweden with numbers 6-1
to Finland and if you want to bring that up, watch the
clip from here.

Yeah. Ice hockey is always a good topic.

#4 TOPICS YOU SHOULD NOT BRING UP

- how we lost gold medal to Sweden 1994.
- how we would almost have three gold medals in ice
hockey world championships in U18, U20 and official
world championship, but Canada came and crushed us in
2016 official world championships.
- Swedish people.
- How we are bilingual country. (swedish & finnish).

#5 STEREOTYPES

We love stereotypes, unless they're made from us.
So don't say things like "I thought all the finns are
alcoholics" or "I thought you had snow all over the
year and polar bears."
Okay just kidding. You can say those, but how many
alcoholics do admit that they're alcoholics?
Oh and we do not have eternal winter or polar bears
no matter what my twitter status says.

Here was a couple of things I gathered up. I absolutely love to make fun of my own people,
I enjoy it more if someone else does so. I don't really care about stereotypes but hockey is
pretty close to my heart haha.
Hope you enjoyed of this post & had a good laugh. Let me know if there's anything you'd
like me to share about this country that I call my home.

  7. Love your post, made me laugh it's so funny because I can see the cultural differences. English people looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove small talks, after saying Hi and they always talk about the weather.
French people always always always start your sentence in french then speak in English if you dont make the effort, they will ignore you
